What Does Award-Winning Independent Living Look Like?

Seniors gathered outside for a meal

Making any change to your lifestyle can be hard to picture. Even if you’re considering moving to an independent living community, no matter how amazing the senior living experience may be, it can be a challenge to know what to expect. What would you do? Would there be new activities to try? What would your neighbors be like?

To give you an idea of what life is like at The Village at Gleannloch Farms, here’s a rundown of what a typical day can look like. Although, if you ask our residents, they’d probably say no day here is “typical.”

A Bright Start to a New Day

Wake up in your bright and airy independent living apartment as light streams through your large windows. Many of our designer one- and two-bedroom apartments and cottage homes have a private patio or porch which is a great place to start your morning with a cup of coffee. Or you could meet up with friends in our coffee shop. Next, you could get your body moving with a walk on our walking paths or take a yoga class. After your body is properly awake, you can engage your creative side with a painting class in our arts and crafts studio. Before you know it, it’s already time for lunch.

Afternoon Time is Adventure Time

With so much to do, you might just want to grab a quick soup and sandwich for lunch in the café/bistro. It’s the perfect place to meet up with your neighbors and figure out what adventure you’ll do next. Since we’re less than 20 miles from downtown Houston, there’s always plenty of options. Will you go to the Woodlands Waterway and Vintage Park with high-end shops, a spa, fine dining and music/event venues? Or Old Town Spring with over 150 shopping and dining destinations, city activities and community festivals? You could also explore Mercer Arboretum and Botanic Gardens. Or take a class at Lone Star College’s Academy for Lifelong Learning.

If you want to stay closer to home, you could pursue your personal best in our fitness center or swim laps in our heated, outdoor saltwater pool. If you have a competitive streak, maybe you try a game of cards, billiards or table tennis. One benefit of our community being on a former horse farm is there’s still some of the original wood-clad stables and barns nearby which are open to the community and offer instruction for new and experienced riders.

Relaxing Evenings

You might gather in the restaurant-style dining room with neighbors, reserve a private dining room for a meal with your family or go out to a restaurant. After dinner, perhaps you’ll watch a movie or musical performance in our theater or meet friends in our ice cream parlor. You could also relax back at home with a book from our library. Then it’s off to bed for a good night’s sleep before starting another “anything but typical” day.
